SUSTAINABLE FARMING

At the Rockin H Ranch, our goal is to farm responsibly and to help heal the land, caring for our animals as humanely as possible and leaving the land better than when we found it.
We farm responsibly, in such a manner that is good for wildlife, cattle, and future generations. Sustainable farming is worth the effort because producing healthy land and pastures can help reduce climate change by a process, called soil carbon sequestration. We are working hard to reach this goal.
We believe in sustainable agriculture and work closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) and the Forestry Commission to thin the trees in our wooded areas to make healthy groves while increasing our pasture areas. We are currently planting 26 acres of Arkansas native natural grasses which is beautiful grass, high in protein, and able to withstand the drought and the heat of Arkansas summers. It will take 2 1/2 years before our cattle will be able to graze on these pastures. Introducing these native grass back into the Ozarks is an exciting venture for several reasons, and one of which is it will produce a better meat product. Another beneficial aspect of this grass is it is natural home of quail which have been displaced with the loss of natural grasses. When this grass reaches maturity the Arkansas Quail Habitat will then release the birds back into their environment.
